Backup & Restore
Because Readium stores its data locally on the device, backups are recommended before reinstalling the app or moving to another device.
What you can do in Settings
- share the database file
- save a backup to Downloads on Android
- restore from a
.readiumfile - change language
- change theme
Exporting a backup
- Open
Settings. - Choose a backup or export action.
- Share or save the generated file.
- Keep it somewhere safe outside the device if possible.
On Android, the app can also show a separate action to save the backup directly to the Downloads folder.
Restoring data
- Open the restore action in
Settings. - Choose a
.readiumfile. - Confirm the warning dialog.
- After restore finishes, follow the restart prompt.
Because restore replaces the current local data flow, making one more fresh backup before restoring is the safer choice.
Important notes
- The restore file must use the
.readiumextension. - The app needs to restart after restore.
- Existing data may be overwritten.
- Regular backups are recommended for long-term use.
